I was frazzled, stressed, beyond tired after my first night on duty in the Obstretics Ward, L&D Hospital, 1978. I had serious doubts about being able to continue for six months, as my GP training rotation required. In breezes the amazing Elaine, Registrar. Over a cup of tea she acknowledged my anxieties but accepted no negativities. She took charge for the next six months. She showed me what I could do, should do and could not do! She was skilled, instinctive, kind and knowledgeable as an obstetrician. Her enthusiasm kept us all going and, best of all, at the end of six months my wife and I had a friend for life. Elaine, we will miss you. Mike S
